The 6th edition of Vibgyor- the festival of documentary and short films will be held on 2011 Jan 12-16 in the Kerala Sangita Nataka Akademi Campus. This year's festival is dedicated to the memory of C Saratchandran who was one of the key organisers of Vibgyor and  an activist who energised the people's movements beyond measure and constantly fought through the visual media against the commercial/industrial powers that made an assault over nature and the environment .

The director of this edition of Vibgyor is Anand Patwardhan the document film maker who explores and enquires into the myriad possibilities of alternate visual expressions and experiences. The 6th festival will showcase more than a hundred films in different packages- films that delve into the quest for identity of  a people who are engaged in struggles for basic necessities, films that show glimpses of many a human rights  movement across the globe, films that raise their voice against the wrong notions of development, films that discuss gender and sexuality, films that portray diverse cultures and media.
Being a dedication to Saratchandran who was a film activist, the focus of this year's festival would be 'Political Film Making and Media Activism in South Asia".

Vibgyor will be graced by the presence of the Palestinian film maker Norma Markose with a Palestinian package of eight films that deal with the pangs of the people of Palestine. Kerala Spectrum, based on the life and culture of Kerala also is a part  of Vibgyor.The package "Focus Children" that has films made by and for children will be showcased in different packages such as Spot, Graphics, Animation, and Music Video.

This year we received more than 250 films from all over  the world and the ones to be screened will be chosen from this list. Every day the delegates will be treated with  "Songs of Resistance"- a musical programme that presents songs that lend power to the many a people's movement by singers from various parts of the country, and an exhibition of alternate media and websites that show the other side of Kerala as well as a vast spread of organic food. There will also be a six-day long film work shop, cultural-musical evenings and mini conferences that discuss people's movements and struggles.

Many colleges and schools are already  the venues of Campus Vibgyor a curtain raiser to the festival.The first phase of "Road to Vibgyor", the journey along the camera views of Sarat has come to an end. The price of the delegate pass is Rs100/- for all delegates except students who need to pay only Rs 50/-
"The third eye of Resistance", the book compiled by Sarat's friends in his memory would be released on Sunday (5th Dec) evening at Sahitya Academy Campus by Ambika, an activist of Plachimada stuggle who would hand ove rthe book to P K M Chekku, an activist from the Chaliyar struggle front. The function will also witness the inaugural distribution of the delegate pass and the release of the announcement issue of Vibgyor.
